I own a VW bug from the 1970s. I really love my car, but I also want to avoid paying ridiculously high gas prices. I also know that ICEs are going to start being phased out at some point. How can I make my VW bug an electric car?

is one of the few companies that has actually taken steps to help VW owners convert their Beetles
into EVs. Just be warned: it isn’t a cheap process. In layman’s terms, VW will bolt your Beetle’s body onto an EV frame, which will cost you somewhere north of $55,000—the price of a mid-segment, brand-new EV. For the price you may not decide that it’s worth it. For that much money, you’re paying to keep the nostalgia and classic styling of the rest of the car. It’s a conflict between aesthetics and practicality that should be considered carefully. After all, for close to $60,000, you could get a VW EV with updated suspension, a new frame, and modern luxuries like driver-assisted tech and an infotainment system. Keeping your resurrected E-Beetle isn’t a bad choice, though. You’ll still save money on gasoline, and you’ll be doing the planet a favor.
