Most states require that you take a pre-licensing course that is 20 to 40 hours long. Once you pass that course, you can register for the insurance exam. If you pass your exam, you can apply with your state to become an insurance agent.
States regulate insurance, so check with your state’s Department of Insurance or Department of Financial Services. They will list the specific requirements to become a licensed agent.
Another option is to get a job with a car insurance agency. Many companies will pay for you to become a licensed agent. You can look at entry-level job postings for insurance companies to determine if this is a possibility.
