I’m sorry to hear about your accident! Thankfully, there are ways to check if the other driver has car insurance
coverage. Since you have attempted to exchange insurance information, but the other driver was not cooperating, you can request help from the police.
If you recorded the license plate number of the at-fault driver, provide this to the police
, so they can run a search. You can also try going to your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You will need to provide your contact information and the reason for the request to the DMV. If approved, the DMV will give you the other person’s insurance company provider.
If that doesn’t work, check with your own car insurance company. If you can provide any information about the other driver or a copy of the police report, your insurance may be able to find the other driver’s information.
Note that once you have identified the other party’s insurer and insurance information, your insurance company will contact the at-fault driver’s insurance provider for you.
