How can I find out if a car has an active insurance policy?
Is there a way for me to find out if my ex-husband put insurance on his car? After our divorce, I signed the title of my 2005 Ford Crown Victoria over to him. He promised he would get insurance. I want to take the car off my GEICO policy, but I don't want to get in trouble.

. If an accident were to happen, you would not be held financially responsible! There are some ways to find out if a car has insurance, but this is usually only done in the event of an accident.
One option you have is to contact your local DMV. You can bring your ID and a copy of your prior insurance policy and explain the situation. Drivers have privacy protection, so the DMV may or may not release that information to you.
Another option is to check with your state’s Department of Insurance or Financial Services. Often they keep records of insurance history as it is a
