You can clear your Florida driving record by doing one of two things: 1) complete a driver improvement course or 2) wait for the points to expire.
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles branch uses a point system for its driver’s licenses. Every traffic infraction you commit adds points to your driving record. These points affect how much you pay for insurance and too many can lead to license suspension.
Accumulated points stay on your record for three years from the time of the infraction. So, if you got a speeding ticket in June of 2020, you would earn three points that would stay on your record until June of 2023.
If you’re not willing to wait, you can have points removed from your record by completing a Florida driver improvement course. You can find a list of courses on the FHSMV website. Courses only cost about $25, but you can only register for a course once in a 12-month period and a maximum of five times.
