How bad is driving in Houston?

I just received a job offer in Houston, but I’ve never even visited the state of Texas. One of my friends from college lives there and he loves it. The only thing he said is that the traffic is insane. I can’t tell if he’s exaggerating. Is driving that bad in Houston?

I have some news you may not want to hear: Driving in Houston is that bad. Home to 2.3 million people, Houston is the fourth-largest city in the U.S., which translates into congested roadways.
While you can certainly get used to driving in H-Town over time, you may be in for a bit of a shock at first. Consider these striking statistics. Houston has:
  • An average one-way commute time of 27 minutes, which is higher than the national average
  • Four major interstates that are gridlocked about 10 to 12 hours a day
  • Around a dozen people who lose their lives each week in traffic accidents in the Houston metro area, making it the deadliest city in America to drive
  • 16,000 miles of paved roads in the city
  • A low-rated public transportation system that causes people to rely heavily on cars
If you do end up moving to
Texas
, you will need to update your car insurance, as each state has its own insurance laws. You can shop for a better-priced policy and update your information quickly and easily using the
