How are electric car batteries made?

I’m curious about how electric car batteries are made. I know that they’re different than a regular car’s lead-based setup. So how do car makers produce electric car batteries?

It’s a long process to produce an electric car battery, it essentially comes down to using precious metals and other materials to shuttle electric currents between parts called an anode and a cathode.
First,
precious metals
need to be mined and refined into pure compounds to help maintain the battery’s charge. Producers buy these materials and then:
  • They use lithium-ion to shuttle an electric current internally from one layer (which is called the anode) to another, known as the cathode.
  • Cathodes are the main limiting factor in battery performance, though, and improving the way that lithium ions are able to be transferred from one layer to the next is the primary performance factor in an EV.
  • These two layers are then separated by another layer, which is called the electrolyte**.**
The multiple layers of precious, heavy metals are the reason that EV batteries are so heavy and expensive. In fact,** **in Tesla’s vehicles, the battery can cost up to half of Tesla’s production costs. The more easily that electric current can be conducted, the more efficiently the battery can be used, and the less precious metals need to be involved in the production process.
As this process gets made easier as technology improves and adapts, battery costs and size will start to drop. You can also drop your car insurance rates by using
