Can veterans’ family members get USAA insurance?

Can our daughter get USAA insurance if her father served in the service with an honorable discharge, but the father does not use USAA coverage?

Great question! While
USAA
reserves its products for those in the military, their coverage extends to veterans and their family members.
USAA offers membership to:
  • Honorably discharged veterans
  • Spouses
  • Children
  • Current service members
  • Pre-commissioned officers
However, your daughter’s father will need to create a profile and join USAA as a member. Your daughter won’t be able to use USAA unless her father joins as a member since they will require his member number when purchasing
car insurance
or using any of their other services.
If your daughter’s father doesn’t want to join USAA, you still have options for finding affordable insurance. You can shop around with multiple insurance companies or try using the
Jerry
app.
Once you download Jerry, answer a handful of questions that will take you roughly 45 seconds to complete and you’ll immediately get car insurance quotes for coverage similar to your current plan. Jerry customers save an average of $887 a year.
