Does your driving record carry over from state to state?

I just received a job offer in Nevada, but I currently live in Colorado. I think I’m going to take the job. However, I have some tickets in Colorado and I’m worried about what that might do to my insurance policy in Nevada. Do tickets carry over to a new state?

Your driving record can carry over from state to state. If you have a few tickets in Colorado, they will follow you to
Nevada
because both states are part of the Driver License Compact.
Started in 1958, the Driver License Compact is an agreement between 45 states and the District of Columbia. This agreement provides the legislation that allows states to share driving records between DMVs. The only way that your driving record may not carry over is if you were living in or moving to states that aren’t part of the Driver License Compact. These states include:
  • Georgia
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Tennessee
  • Wisconsin
With any luck, you won’t see an increase in car insurance rates, as this may already be factored into your current premium. But the only way to know if you’re paying a fair price for insurance is to download the
