I’m in the preliminary phase of comparison shopping for SUVs online, and a spare tire is really important to me, as I’ve had lots of flat-tire-related emergencies. Does the Cadillac XT5 have a spare?

It’s definitely a smart idea to expect the unexpected and have a spare tire at the ready—especially if you’ve already lived through the headache of a flat before.
Newer Cadillac XT5s do not have a spare tire. Standard repair equipment includes a tire repair and inflator kit, but a compact spare is available at an extra cost.
Obviously, if you’re shopping used, you’ll have to check to see if that particular model includes the optional spare.
Keep in mind that this is a compact spare, meaning it will likely appear much smaller than your vehicle’s regular tires. The compact spare tire or temporary use tire should not be driven at speeds over 50 mph. It is for emergency use only—when your regular road tire has lost air and gone completely flat.
Your owner’s manual should include detailed directions for locating, installing, and using the spare tire safely. As a general rule of thumb, the safest approach is to use your compact spare only to get to the nearest tire repair shop.
