Does home insurance cover damage from tree roots?

"Tree roots have grown under my house's foundation and drawn groundwater. This has resulted in flooding in my basement. Does homeowners insurance cover this kind of damage? Or if the tree is city property, is the city responsible for the damage?

“In most cases, damage from
tree roots
is not covered under your homeowners insurance unless you have a specific endorsement listed on your policy to cover it. If the tree is city property, it would be a good idea to contact them to ask if they will take responsibility for the damage. However, they may state that it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to hire someone to remove the roots and repair the damage. “
