Does home insurance cover a foundation?

During the last winter storm, my pipes froze and burst. Now there are cracks in my foundation that need to be repaired. Will my home insurance cover foundation repairs?

I’m sorry to hear there are cracks in your foundation. Luckily, your home insurance will cover foundation repairs if the damages were caused by a
named perils
.
However, if the foundation damage was caused by something explicitly excluded from your policy, you wouldn’t have coverage. Events that are typically excluded from your standard home insurance policy are:
  • Earthquakes
    or floods
  • Pressure from tree roots
  • Faulty construction
  • Natural settling, cracking, shrinking, bulging, or expansion of the foundation
To determine if the damage to your foundation is covered, carefully read your policy’s terms and conditions and speak with an agent.
