Does California have toll roads?

I’m traveling to California next summer to visit a friend. I want to drive to save money compared to flying, but I want to know what to expect when I drive through the state. Are there any toll roads in California?

California
does have toll roads, but not as many as other states. All of the state’s toll roads are in San Diego County, Orange County, and the Bay Area. Here’s a list of all of them:
  • State Route 73
  • State Route 125 (the only one in San Diego County)
  • State Route 133
  • State Route 241
  • State Route 261
The Bay Area’s tolls, all correspond to bridges:
  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • San Mateo-Hayward Bridge
  • San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge
  • Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
  • Dumbarton Bridge
  • Carquinez Bridge
  • Benicia-Martinez Bridge
  • Antioch Bridge
Before heading out on your road trip to California, make sure to review your car insurance policy and add things like roadside assistance or higher coverage limits to cover yourself. While you can add these to your current policy, using the
