Do you need home insurance for land?
I just bought a piece of land in the country. Eventually, I’d like to build a home on it, but for right now, I’ll be keeping it empty. I know most people get home insurance, but do I need home insurance for land?

Congrats on the new purchase. A home in the country sounds awesome, and in most cases, you don’t need home insurance for vacant land.
Most common
home insurance
policies exclude land from coverage—even if a structure is standing on it. Since you don’t have a dwelling or any other structures located on your property, you couldn’t get a traditional home insurance policy to cover it. However, vacant land policies do exist. Vacant land policies are liability-only policies that only protect you from any injuries that may occur on your land. If you plan to have people on your land, it may be worth purchasing.
That said, it isn’t a requirement by law to purchase vacant land insurance unless you financed your land and your lender requires it.
