What causes gas pedal vibration when I accelerate?

My parents have given me their second car to use—if I take care of it for two years, they will help me buy one of my own. But now, I think there might be a problem. What would make the gas pedal vibrate when I push it down?

Taking care of your first car is a big responsibility! It is smart to do a little research when anything seems off, especially in this case.
Gas pedal vibration when you accelerate is an indicator of an exhaust leak.
Your car’s exhaust system has a lot of individual parts that can fail. For example, failing hoses, gaskets, or pipes will cause an exhaust leak.
Luckily, the vibrating gas pedal is an early warning and it is vital to resolve the problem as soon as possible. A leaky exhaust will expose you to your car’s toxic emissions.
Because of the complexity, you will want to work with a mechanic, even if you understand basic
car maintenance
and repair. A simple patch can run around $100, but replacing the whole system can cost as much as $1200 so don’t wait too long.
