Do trucks cost more to insure?

I'm currently saving up for a Ford F-150. I've never had a truck before, but owning one has always been my dream. However, I've also never gone through the process of insuring a truck. Will I need to pay more for insurance on a truck than a car?

“Congrats on finally being able to save for your dream car! I’m happy to say that based on the type of truck you’d like to get, insurance for your Ford shouldn’t cost any more than insuring a car.
Insurance rates are primarily determined by a variety of factors, including:
  • Credit history
  • Driving record
  • Age
  • Location
These factors are more likely to impact your rate than the type of truck you plan to purchase.
That said, if you were going to get a larger truck, your rate could increase. Larger trucks are often considered commercial vehicles based on their size. If this is the case, you’d likely need to get a commercial policy—the prices of which can vary—to insure it.
If you’re concerned about the cost of insurance, you can get the vehicle identification number (VIN) from the dealership to get
