Do motorcycles need to be smog tested?

I just bought a used motorcycle. I know I have to take my car every few years for a smog test but I’m not familiar with the rules for bikes. Do I have to take my motorcycle in for a smog test?

Great question—knowing the emission requirements for vehicles can get confusing and motorcycles aren’t as straightforward as cars!
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has strict emission standards for motorcycles that are regulated under section 202 of the Clean Air Act. This calls for equivalent emission reductions from motorcycles and other vehicles. However, there are currently no requirements for motorcycles to undergo emission testing.
But motorcycle manufacturers must ensure that bikes over 179 cc meet with governmental emissions regulations for the first 18,600 miles put onto a bike, which is compared to 150,000 miles for other vehicles.
While you may not be required to undergo emission testing on your motorcycle, you are required to carry the proper insurance. Car insurance super app
