Do I need to tell my new insurance company about my prior parking tickets?

When I switch insurance companies, do I need to disclose my parking tickets? I am shopping around for new insurance and I noticed that every company is asking if I have had previous accidents and violations. I have never had any kind of ticket besides a parking ticket. Does that count?

“Parking tickets do not need to be disclosed to your new insurance company. Non-moving violations like parking tickets and equipment violations are not surcharged.
When insurance companies ask for details about your prior driving record, they are looking for the following:
  • Date and type of moving violation
  • How many miles over the speed limit
  • Date of accident
  • Fault of accident
  • Physical damage payout
You do always want to make sure that you are honest with your insurance company. This is especially true when shopping for new car insurance. This way, your quote will be accurate and you won’t see any nasty rate increases when they run your motor vehicle report.
