Can you turn right on red in Massachusetts?

I recently moved to the suburbs outside of Boston from out west and I’m terrified of getting a ticket! I feel like traffic laws should be the same everywhere, but they’re not. Can I even turn right on red in Massachusetts?

Congratulations on your recent move, and try not to worry too much about getting a ticket! Thankfully, Massachusetts has laws following the general rules of the road—meaning it’s legal to turn right on red unless a posted sign prohibits it. As long as you’re a safe driver, you don’t have to worry about paying more for your
car insurance in Massachusetts
due to a ticket.
In fact, you can even turn left on red in Massachusetts as long as you’re going from a one-way to another one-way. But keep an eye out for posted traffic signs—these signs overrule the general rules of the road and may forbid making any turn on a red light. If you violate a sign, you could find yourself with a ticket.
If traffic tickets have raised your

rates, you have ways of lowering your rates again. Besides going to traffic school or waiting for your violations to expire, you can shop for a new policy with the
