Do I need to get a smog check in New Jersey?
I’m moving from the midwest to New Jersey, and I’m pretty sure the vehicle laws will be a little different there. Specifically, I’m wondering about vehicle emissions. Do I need to get a smog check in New Jersey?

Every car in New Jersey needs to undergo a smog check or vehicle emissions test every two years, with just a few exceptions.
If your car is 1995 or older model, the vehicle is exempt from emissions testing requirements. And if you buy a brand new car in New Jersey, its initial inspection is good for five years.
That means it’s still subject to smog checks, but the first inspection you get is good until five years later, when you’ll start getting regular two-year inspections which include emissions tests.
