Do I need an international driving permit in Canada?
I’m visiting family in Canada and planning to drive there. Do I need to apply for an international driving permit? Or is my U.S. driver’s license valid in Canada?

Taking a trip to the Great White North sounds like a dream! And familiarizing yourself with driving regulations before you go is just plain smart.
You will not need an international driving permit in Canada to get behind the wheel if you hold a valid U.S. driver’s license—unless you’re planning to stay more than 90 days. In that case, you will need to apply for an international driving permit (IDP) before you cross the border.
In addition to having a valid driver’s license or IDP, you’ll also need to present valid car insurance. Note that your U.S. policy is unlikely to cover driving internationally.
