Do I have to wear shoes while driving?
Nothing beats driving barefoot when good weather finally hits. But the last time I was driving barefoot, my friend told me it was illegal. Are there any laws against not wearing shoes while driving?

Technically, you do not have to wear shoes while driving. None of the 50 states nor the District of Columbia have any laws requiring you to wear shoes. So from a legal standpoint, you will not get a

.However, driving without shoes isn’t a great idea. It can be dangerous for a variety of reasons:
- Bare feet can slide off the pedals more easily, especially if your feet are wet from a pool or the beach.
- You can’t apply the same amount of force when you brake or accelerate.
- Driving without shoes could be distracting if you step on something sharp or stub your toe.
