Do I have to pay my collision deductible if someone hits me?
Will I need to pay my deductible to get my vehicle repaired? Someone hit me at a stoplight and I need to get the damage repaired. I have a $500 collision deductible.

“To figure out if you’ll need to pay your
collision insurance
deductible, fault will need to be determined. Since you were hit at a stop light, it’s likely you are not at fault.
If so, you normally wouldn’t be required to pay your collision deductible. In most cases, the other party’s
property damage liability
would cover the damage to your vehicle.However, if the other party isn’t insured or is underinsured, you may have to use your own insurance to cover the damage. This would be either through your collision insurance or
uninsured motorist coverage
. While your insurance may try to recover the cost of your collision deductible for reimbursement, you would still have to pay it up front for repairs. The same would be true if you were at fault in the accident.”
