Do both owners of a vehicle need their own insurance policy?

Since my husband and I both own the vehicle, will he automatically be covered? My husband and I are both listed on the title. I'm planning on getting car insurance for the vehicle. Does he need to get his own policy?

“When two people own a vehicle, most
car insurance companies
require that the owners be listed as the named insured on a car insurance policy.
Since you are married, insurance companies would typically require that your husband be listed on the policy as well. With your husband on the policy with you, he will not need to get his own insurance.
If he wasn’t on the insurance, he wouldn’t automatically be covered by the policy even though he owns the vehicle.
While insurance typically does follow the vehicle, many companies require that a driver be listed to explicitly have coverage. To ensure he’s protected when driving the vehicle, the best thing to do is add him to the policy.
If this is your second vehicle, consider bundling your policies with
multi-car coverage
