Can you turn right on a red light in Idaho?

My husband and I are moving to Idaho for his work, and I’m trying to learn the driving laws to ensure I don’t make any illegal moves. Is turning right on a red in Idaho legal?

You can turn right on a red light in Idaho as long as there are no signs prohibiting the maneuver.
Before making a right turn on a red, drivers must:
  • Come to a complete stop
  • Yield the right of way to both oncoming traffic and pedestrians
  • Ensure no signs (either municipal or state) are posted prohibiting drivers from turning right on a red light
If you come to an intersection with a flashing red light in Idaho, ensure you come to a complete stop, then check for pedestrians and/or oncoming traffic before proceeding with your turn. However, a steady red arrow means you cannot enter the intersection, and turning right on a red is prohibited.
A red light violation can cost you a $90 fine and three demerit points added to your driving record. The penalties may not be too steep, but accumulating points on your record can increase your

rates.
