Can you travel Europe by car?

Is it possible to travel by car while in Europe if I have an American driving license? I love driving and I want to do a road trip while I’m in Europe this summer, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to or not.

Yes, it’s possible to travel across Europe by car—as long as you’re willing to pay some fees to cross borders with a
rental car
. Note that some countries will require you to get an international driving permit (IDP) before you’re allowed to drive.
To get an IDP, you’ll need to fill out an application and submit it to an authorized vendor along with a copy of your driving license and two passport-sized photos of yourself. You’ll also have to pay a small fee.
While you’re learning about driving in Europe, why not update your car insurance policy, too? It only takes a minute when you use the
