Can you tell me how to soundproof a baby room?
We’re setting up our nursery for our first child. Sound carries pretty easily through our house, so I’m worried about things going on in other rooms waking up our baby. Can you tell me how to soundproof a baby room?

There are many different options for how to soundproof a baby room, and there are tons of ways to get creative and naturally incorporate it with your nursery decor.
I would help to spend some time in the room to pinpoint where the largest sources of noise are coming from, then decide how you can respond to better soundproof your baby’s room.
Here are just a few ways to soundproof a baby room:
- Seal gaps around the nursery’s door, as well as any windows
- Consider replacing a lightweight door with one that’s more soundproof
- Installing thick, heavy curtains can help insulate some of the sound from outside that might come in through windows
- If you have an upstairs level, you could reduce noise by draping fabrics or acoustic panels from the ceiling
- Consider installing carpet or laying down rugs
- Hang soft materials and decor from walls to help absorb sound—that could look like decorative blankets or macrame hangings, to name a few possibilities
- A white-noise machine could help create a calming effect for you baby and mask sounds from elsewhere in the house that might be more disturbing to them
