Can you tell if your car was struck by lightning?

I live in Illinois, and we have huge thunderstorms in the summer. I was driving in one last week, and my car started to act up in ways it hasn't done before. I got home safely, but it was a little nerve-wracking for a minute. Is there any way to tell if your car was struck by lightning? And is there a chance it did any lasting damage?

“That definitely sounds nerve-wracking! If your car is struck by lightning, you’ll see a huge flash followed by loud thunder—generally, you’ll know something happened immediately.
Luckily, this usually doesn’t do anything other than make your heart race. However, it may cause damage to your car’s electronics, cause the car to stall, or cause your
battery to die
.
If this causes damage to your car, you may be covered by your
comprehensive coverage
. Call your agent to see if they’ll cover the damages.
These thunderstorms are a regular occurrence, so if you don’t have comprehensive coverage, you should add it to your policy. One easy way to make sure you’re getting the best price on the coverage you need is to use the
