Can you spray your engine bay with water?

I noticed there’s some rust build-up on my car’s engine bay that I’ve been wanting to remove. Is it okay to spray water on your engine bay to clean it?

It’s good you’re taking care of your car!
Spraying small amounts of water on your engine bay is okay. In fact, you should use hot water to help clean rust and dirt from collecting on your engine block. Just make sure you’re not spraying water on it while your engine’s hot, as this could cause it to crack.
If you’re using pressurized water to clean your engine block, be mindful of where you spray. Getting water on your car’s alternator is always bad, and other components of your car could become water damaged if they don’t dry out properly.
