Can you smoke in a leased car?

I’m planning to lease a car for a long work trip this spring, but I might trade it back in after the trip. I love to smoke while I drive, but I don’t want to get in trouble if I decide to return the car. Are you allowed to smoke in leased cars?

There are usually no rules against smoking in a
leased car
, although it’s a good idea to check your lease contract first. Some dealers will charge a cleaning and maintenance fee if you return a leased car with smoke residue inside.
If you cause any other damages with your smoking habit, like burn holes or ceiling discoloration, you’ll be financially responsible for having those issues repaired as well. If you think there’s a possibility that you’ll try to trade in your vehicle, it might be best to refrain from smoking for the time being.
