Can you replace a tail light for the 2018 Toyota Camry at home?
So, I wasn’t looking closely enough when I was pulling out of the garage this morning and I smashed my 2018 Toyota Camry tail light. I’d prefer not to go to an auto shop and be charged some ridiculous price just for someone to basically put a new lightbulb in. Is this something I might be able to do myself?

tail light yourself—it’s actually a pretty easy job, once you know what to do. However, it sounds like you’re dealing with more than just some burnt-out or broken bulbs. Based on the way that you broke it, I would venture to guess that the tail light casing is also broken—or at least, very heavily cracked. Unfortunately, to have the whole light casing replaced, you will need to go to an actual mechanic.
That being said, if you ever do find yourself in a similar situation, and your light casing isn’t broken, you’ll be able to make the tail light change yourself. Here’s what you would do:
- Using a flathead screwdriver, gently pull the upholstering away from the trunk and the hatch. * * Again, using the screwdriver, gently pry the plastic casing away from the interior of the light
- Unscrew the old bulb
- Replace any bad bulbs with new ones.
