Can you keep a fire extinguisher in a car?
I’m getting a survival kit together to keep in my car. I want to include all the essentials, but I think a fire extinguisher could be helpful as well. Could I keep a fire extinguisher in my car?

Having a survival or
emergency kit
is a great way to ensure you’re safe, no matter what. And the good news is, you can keep a fire extinguisher in your car. That said, you’ll want to follow a few rules:
- Always keep the fire extinguisher strapped down in your trunk or under your seat when not in use.
- Only use extinguishers rated for Class B and C fires: B and C fire extinguishers put out fires caused by flammable liquids and electrical components. Ideally, try to find a BC combo extinguisher.
- Be mindful of the temperature outside and inside your car: A fire extinguisher cannot be stored *under -40 or above 120 degrees. If you live in a very cold or hot climate, consider removing your extinguisher to prevent future damage or malfunctions.
- Consider a dry powder extinguisher: A dry powder extinguisher works best for a car as they tend to do the least amount of damage.
