Can you flat tow a Smart car?

I just purchased a motorhome and am looking for a small car to tow behind it for use after we’ve set up camp. It seems like one of those Smart cars would be a good choice, as they’re super small! Can you flat tow a Smart car?

It’s always nice to have a smaller vehicle to use when you’re traveling in an RV! The available information is a little all over the board for this one, but the general consensus seems to be that you cannot flat tow a Smart car.

While there are some sources that state that it’s possible with certain configurations of certain years, there are others that emphatically state that the Smart car was not meant to be flat towed.

Contact your nearest Smart car servicer if you’re still curious, but it seems like it’s a better safe than sorry situation!
