However, you need to put the transfer case in neutral to prevent damage to the vehicle. Here are step-by-step instructions for how to do it.
- Park the Wrangler on level ground.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Shift the transmission into neutral (automatic transmission) or press the clutch pedal (manual transmission).
- Turn off the engine.
- Shift the transfer case lever into neutral.
- Fire up the engine.
- Shift the transmission into reverse.
- Release the brake pedal or clutch for five seconds, making sure there is no vehicle movement.
- Turn off the engine.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Shift the transmission into park.
