Can you drive without car insurance in Washington?

I don't want to pay for another insurance policy for my wife's new car. If you choose to do so, can you drive without car insurance in the state?

“In Washington state, you are legally required to either carry
car insurance
that meets the state minimum requirements for
liability insurance
, or apply with the state Department of Licensing for a certificate that will guarantee financial responsibility in the event of an accident.
Most people comply with these mandatory laws by purchasing an insurance policy, which may be cheaper if you combine it with your current policy.
If you fail to comply with either of these options, you could be ordered to pay a fine of $550 or more. If you don’t have insurance, your license may be suspended if you cause a car accident and you’re unable to pay the injured parties’ damages.
It’s cheaper to ensure you have the proper coverage. Use the free
