Can you advise me how to tie down a motorcycle in a truck bed?
I’m going out to Sturgis this year, but this time because I’m bringing my wife and mother-in-law along, I’ll be transporting my Harley Sportster in the bed of my F-150. I’ve researched my bed length and load specification for my truck, so I’m fine there. Can you advise me how to tie down a motorcycle in a truck bed?

For motorcycle enthusiasts—particularly Harley riders like yourself—Sturgis is a great excuse for a road trip.
While many riders trailer their bikes, it’s definitely possible to tie down and transport your Sportster. Experts recommend that your motorcycle be tied down so that it has four points of contact with your truck bed.
Here are some tips:
- Purchase aluminum folding ramps and leave them in the truck bed. You’ll need them each time you take your motorcycle on and off the truck bed.
- Consider investing in a special handlebar harness for the front of your bike. You can run this handlebar strap around the handlebars and connect it to each side of the pickup bed. This approach will securely anchor the front part of your bike to your truck.
- Strap down the rear part of your motorcycle as well.
- Use two straps, one for each side of your motorcycle.
- Tighten your straps. It is strongly suggested that you invest in straps that come with ratchets, so you know the bike is secure.
