Can I sell my car without a catalytic converter?

So I have an old car in my garage that I never use. It runs just fine, but it is missing a catalytic converter. I’m wondering, am I allowed to sell a car without a converter?

Whether or not you can sell your car without a catalytic converter will depend on where you live. For the most part, though, the answer is that no—you cannot legally sell a car that is missing a catalytic converter.
Most states, such as
Texas
, outright forbid the sale of cars without converters. Others, like
California
, outlaw selling a car without taking it in for an emissions test—which, of course, it will fail without the catalytic converter.
