Can I remove my cosigner from my car loan?

My partner and I recently broke up. He was the cosigner of my car loan and I want to remove him. Can I do this?

Depending on the situation, yes. If your lender allows this and you show an ability to pay for the loan on your own, you may be able to request a co-signer release form, which can be filled out and returned to the lender easily.
If you’re not able to obtain this form, you’ll have to
refinance the car loan
, which will get you a new loan rate. (If he’s technically a co-borrower and not a cosigner, this is the only option you have.)
