"Can I drive my new car home before buying car insurance? "

"I am going to buy my first car today and am unsure of how the process works. Do I need to buy a car insurance policy before I get to the dealership or before I leave the dealership, or can it be handled when I get home?

“The process of getting a new car insured is very simple, actually. Once you settle on the make and model you want, get some sample quotes so you have an idea of how much you’ll be charged.
Once you go to the dealer and work out the pricing and financing details, call the
car insurance
company of your choice while you’re still at the dealership, give them the car’s vehicle identification number (VIN), and pay for the policy.
In most states it is illegal to drive a car without insurance, even if you just bought it. However, even in states where it is not illegal, you should try to avoid driving a car without insurance. It is just too risky.
