Can I drive a car in Georgia while I'm waiting for license plates?
I purchased a vehicle in Macon through a private seller. I don't have plates on it currently, and the state has a backlog. Can I drive the car while I'm waiting for license plates?

Sounds like you got a good deal on a ride!
The good news is that you can legally drive your car in Georgia, but it might be a bit of a hassle. You also may be pulled over frequently.
Typically, Georgia allows drivers to drive without plates for seven days after purchase. If there is a backlog, however, you can contact the DMV to get an extension of up to 30 days.
That said, the police won’t have a record of this, so you’ll need to have the bill of sale and proof of insurance on hand to prove you’re not driving a stolen car.
