Can home insurance cover roof leaks?

My roof started leaking. We just had a big storm, but I'm not sure if that caused the damage. Can I submit a claim to my insurance?

“The leak in your roof may be covered depending on the cause of the damage. If the storm caused the damage, your policy should cover the loss. However, if the damage was caused by wear and tear, this would not be covered by any type of homeowners policy.
If you’re unsure of how the damage was caused, you should consult a professional. A roofing specialist will be able to look at your roof and determine a cause for the leaking. If the reason is something covered by your insurance, you could submit a claim, just as you would with your

.
If you have any questions about what’s covered in your policy, reach out to your insurance company. Agents and claims specialists are typically always available to answer any questions you may have about your coverage.
If a roofing specialist determines that the leak was caused by wear and tear, you may need some additional cash for the repairs. That’s when insurance shopping can come in handy. Sign up for the
