Can electric cars park for free in Honolulu?
I know some states have different laws and incentives when it comes to EVs. Do electric cars park for free in Honolulu, Hawaii?

While Honolulu used to allow EVs to park for free, starting July 2020, electric cars were no longer able to get a free pass at parking meters.
Every state has different laws when it comes to
electric vehicles
. With the growing number of EVs on the roads, it becomes trickier to navigate incentives for EV drivers without creating gaps in funding for infrastructure repairs and maintenance costs. In 2012, the Hawaii Department of Transportation enacted Act 168 which gave EVs free parking at in most public parking spots including airports.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation website also notes that along with free parking, the single-passenger HOV lane exemptions were repealed in July of 2020 as well. As more and more people go electric, governments will likely revert more and more incentives.
