Can an asylum seeker get a driving license?

Will I be able to get a driving license as an asylum seeker in the U.S.? I don’t know how to drive here yet but my friend who lives here is willing to teach me. Is it worth learning?

It’s definitely worth learning how to drive on American roads! As an asylum seeker in the U.S., you’ll be able to obtain a
driving license
in some states and the District of Columbia. The states currently offering driving licenses to immigrants are:
  1. California
  2. Colorado
  3. Connecticut
  4. Delaware
  5. Hawaii
  6. Illinois
  7. Maryland
  8. Nevada
  9. New Jersey
  10. New Mexico
  11. New York
  12. Oregon
  13. Utah
  14. Vermont
  15. Virginia
  16. Washington
If you live in one of these states you’ll probably be able to get a driving license, but be sure to read your state laws to see what kind of documentation you’ll need to provide.
If you don’t live in one of these states, unfortunately, you won’t be eligible for a driving license. However, it’s still a good idea to get a state ID of some kind that you can use as proof of identity instead of a driving license.
If you do decide to start driving, you’ll need car insurance, too. The
