At what age can a child travel without a car seat?

My child is six years old and he hates riding in his car seat. It’s my first and only child, so I’m not sure when he can travel in a car without one. What is the age for a child not to be in a car seat?

Kids reach an age where they fully believe they’re grown up and don’t want to be treated like a baby anymore. At age eight, a child can travel without a car seat. Prior to then, it’s not recommended.
However, every state has different laws. Check with your local DMV or look on the DMV website to see what the requirements are where you live.
Regulations surrounding car seats usually cite specifics like a child’s age, weight, and height. So if your kid is growing like a weed, they may be able to get out of the car seat sooner rather than later.
Keep in mind that children under the age of 13 should sit in the back seat—the airbags in the front seat can cause serious injury.
