Am I eligible for defensive driving in Texas?
I live in Texas, and I just got a speeding ticket. I haven’t been to court for it yet, but I heard that I might be able to get it dismissed if I take a defensive driving course. Would I qualify?

Most drivers who’ve committed minor driving offenses are eligible for defensive driving courses in
Texas
that can result in dismissal of the citation. You can take a defensive driving course if you meet the following criteria:- You have not taken a defensive driving course within the past year.
- You don’t have a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- You are not currently completing a defensive driving course for another violation.
You’re not allowed to complete a defensive driving course if any of the following apply:
- You were speeding at 25mph or more over the posted speed limit
- You don’t havecar insurance
- You left the scene of an accident
- You were passing a stopped school bus
- Your citation was issued in a construction or work zone
