Is it worth calling the police when you're involved in a minor fender bender?

I had a tiny little accident with another car the other day. I got a dent on my car, but it's still driveable and otherwise totally fine. My mom said I should have called the police to make a report, but I think that's silly for a little fender bender like this. Was she right?

Sorry to hear about your accident!
Generally, it’s recommended that you always call the police so that there’s an
accident report
on file. If you’re ever in doubt about whether you should call the police, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Should you file a claim with your insurance and the other driver becomes uncooperative after initially agreeing to settle things privately, it’s helpful to have a police report to help. Having the police there to officially document and record the situation will ultimately serve to help you if further complications arise from the car accident.
It would also be wise to look at your coverage options on your insurance plan to understand your options regarding repairs. If you have additional questions regarding coverages,
