I'm buying a car soon from a dealership and I want to know: When do I purchase car insurance?

I'm going to be buying my first car pretty soon. Do I buy insurance for the car before I offiically buy or after?

If you’re in the market to purchase a vehicle, it’s a good idea to get some preliminary insurance quotes before you go to the dealership to make sure the cost is going to fit your budget. Insurance companies can save your quotes to make it a faster and easier process for you when you’re ready to purchase the policy.
Most dealerships require proof of insurance before allowing you to leave with your new vehicle. So once you’ve decided on the vehicle you want to purchase, you can call back your chosen carrier to finish the insurance buying process and have your insurance documents sent to the dealership.
