Porsche Vehicle Service Protection (VSP) agreement: coverage and cost
There are two levels of coverage offered for a Porsche Vehicle Service Protection agreement.
Powertrain Plan: Limited coverage for engine, transmission, and drivetrain components, as well as seals and gaskets
Platinum Plan: Comprehensive coverage for about 1,5000 mechanical parts in your car including all components covered under powertrain parts as well as fuel system, electrical system, climate control parts, and more
You can take your Porsche to any participating Porsche dealer or authorized, licensed repair center to have VSP-covered repairs performed. Typically you’ll have to pay a $100 to $250 deductible, but the deductible may be waived if you go to the dealership where your Porsche was originally sold.
Either Porsche VSP guarantees that all covered repairs will use genuine Porsche parts—a perk only included for two years under the standard factory warranty. Porsche offers a few other perks with both levels of Vehicle Service Protection coverage, including the following:
24-hour roadside assistance with enhanced benefits and up to $250 reimbursement for towing to your original dealership or the nearest authorized service center
Up to $50 per diem of rental car reimbursement for up to 10 days while your car’s repairs take place
Up to $200 per diem of trip interruption coverage for up to five days if repair demands occur while you are away from home.
Your Porsche VSP plan is 100% transferable to a new owner for a one-time $50 fee within 30 days of selling your Porsche.
What’s covered
With only two levels of coverage to choose from, it should be pretty easy to choose your Porsche VSP plan based on what parts of your Porsche you want to protect.
The Powertrain Plan is the simplest (and least expensive) form of Porsche VSP coverage. This is the way to go if you’re only concerned about extending the life of your factory powertrain warranty and covers the following components:
Exhaust/intake manifold and bolts
Rear/front-wheel drive axles
While this coverage may seem pretty limited, a Porsche VSP Powertrain Plan could save you a good chunk of change at the mechanic—especially considering the cost of expensive Porsche parts. A VVT oil control valve replacement

Technological components (e.g., navigation display, Bluetooth, speakers)
As you can see the Platinum Plan includes a good amount of extra coverage for the many systems that make your Porsche run and then some. The Powertrain Plan is a good way to make sure your Porsche stays on the road, but a Platinum Plan will make sure your Porsche and all of its included features perform exactly how they’re supposed to.

What isn’t
Every warranty—regardless of whether it’s factory or extended, Porsche or another car brand—is only intended to cover repairs under certain circumstances. Here are a few things that will not be covered by either of the available Porsche VSP plans.
Repairs covered by your auto insurance: like those resulting from a collision, property crime, or natural disaster
Services recommended as part of regularly scheduled maintenance: oil changes, tires, brake pads and rotors, lights, cables, belts, hoses, and other parts prone to natural wear and tear
Repairs resulting from improper use: like those resulting from unadvised off-roading or drag racing
Unapproved modifications: an aftermarket sound system would simply be uncovered; an unapproved performance mod like odometer tampering could void your warranty
Body and interior finishing components: seat upholstery, dashboard, carpets
That said, Porsche does offer a few other protection plans to help preserve these uncovered parts, such as:
Premier Tire & Wheel Protection
Battery components on hybrid and electric Porsches are also uncovered by a VSP, but these are typically protected by their own eight-year/100,000-mile factory warranty.
Duration
Both the Powertrain and Platinum VSP plans cover five to10 years and up to 100,000 miles.
This is concurrent with your Porsche’s four-year/50,000-mile factory warranty. That means a five-year Porsche VSP plan is really only one year of additional coverage, and a 10-year plan is five years of additional coverage. However, you’ll be able to enjoy all the additional perks of your VSP (like roadside assistance and genuine Porsche parts) while your factory warranty is active.
No matter what duration of coverage you choose, your Porsche VSP will expire once your Porsche has surpassed the set age or mileage limit.
The maximum 10-year/100,00-mile warranty duration is available for all qualifying Porsche models—new, used, and certified pre-owned.

While exact costs are not available from Porsche, the average Porsche owner reports paying anywhere from $3,500 to $6,600 on average for a Porsche extended warranty.
The cost of your Porsche Vehicle Service Protection Plan will depend on the level and duration of coverage you choose, as well as your deductible. Not to mention, you’ll have to negotiate your VSP with your Porsche dealer, so prices can greatly vary depending on where you buy your Porsche.
The Platinum Plan is typically more expensive than the Powertrain Plan since it covers so many more components of your Porsche. Naturally, you can also expect to pay the most for a full 10-year/100,000-mile Porsche extended warranty as opposed to a shorter duration.
When you negotiate your Porsche VSP plan, you’ll be able to choose between a $100 vanishing deductible or a $250 deductible. This is the amount that you agree to pay out of pocket for any covered repairs. You’ll pay more for the $100 vanishing deductible, but the upside is that it will be waived if you go to your original dealership for repairs.
Is it worth getting a Porsche extended warranty?
Whether or not an extended warranty is worth it for you comes down to a matter of personal preference. But you can weigh some real-world costs.
Porsche maintenance expenses can get expensive with annual average repair costs of $1,192. A Porsche VSP warranty likely won’t be worth it if its annual cost is more expensive than these average repair costs.
