The cause of two safety recalls, the most serious issue to befall the 2017 Buick Encore was its airbags not deploying due to a software glitch. A software bug inside the Encore’s computer would direct the SUV’s airbag system to conduct a diagnostic test instead of deploying.
Whenever this error occurred—and it could happen at any time—the vehicle’s airbags became inoperable. Of course, this could pose a serious danger to both driver and passengers, in case the airbags weren’t able to deploy at the time of a crash. A software fix was issued to correct the issue.

As reported to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicle would stall while being driven between 70 and 80 miles per hour.A third problem revolves around the dreaded limp mode, where the vehicle suddenly becomes unable to accelerate or maneuver, even to avoid a collision. As reported to the NHTSA, there were documented instances of the Encore being repaired following a bout of limp mode, only to have the problem reoccur anywhere from 24 hours to two weeks later.
