2014 Dodge Dart engine oil capacity

First, you need to determine how much oil your 2014 Dodge Dart holds.
The 2.4-L 4-cylinder engine that runs the 2014 Dodge Dart holds 5.5 quarts or 5.2 liters. Oil capacity is the amount of oil needed for each change. This is different from engine displacement, which, in this case, is the 2.4-liter volume the cylinders take up.

What kind of oil does a 2014 Dodge Dart need?

Now that we went over how much oil the Dart requires, it’s time to learn about what type of oil. Not all oil is created the same, so don’t buy the first one you see on the shelf. You want to buy an advanced full synthetic 0W-20 motor oil. This is what Dodge recommends for the 2014 Dart.
But what does that really mean? Let’s talk about it. The numbers in the oil grade refer to the oil’s viscosity—how thick it is—while the “W” stands for winter. The number 0 right before “W” tells us that this oil’s got a low viscosity at 0°F, while the number 20 means that it’s also relatively thin at a blazing hot 212°F.
To put it more simply, you are looking for an oil with these ratings because it performs well in cold weather conditions, but low viscosity means less wear and tear on your engine. “Synthetic oil” means it’s made from artificial materials.

How often to change oil on a 2014 Dodge Dart

Now that you are an expert on the 2014 Dodge Dart oil type and capacity, let’s
change your oil
!
Keep in mind Dodge recommends changing your oil every 3,500 to 4,500 miles if you’re using conventional oil. If you are a frequent driver, changing every six months might be worth considering to make sure the oil stays clean and functional.
If you have decided on synthetic oil, you can go longer between oil changes. Experts recommend changing synthetic oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles
Make sure you change the oil at the right time by checking your car’s oil levels regularly. The following signs will pop up if it needs to be changed:
  • Strange noises coming from the engine
  • Smells that smell of oil, smoke, or burning
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Once you know it’s time to change the oil, gather up your materials. You’ll need the following: a drain pan, a filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter, and a socket wrench. You will also need a replacement filter and 5.5 quarts of advanced full synthetic 0W-20 motor oil.
You want to start by running the engine to bring it up to normal operating temperature. In normal weather, this won’t take longer than five minutes. Once it reaches that temperature, shut off the engine, open the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Take off the oil cap
  • Position yourself beneath the engine and take off the washer and drain bolt—this will release the old oil into the pan
  • While the oil drains, take off the old filter
  • Put on the new filter
  • Take off the old drain bolt, put on the new washer, and tighten to 29 lb-ft
  • Put on the fill cap and fill up the engine
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Your dipstick will show if you’ve added enough oil. Once you complete the change, run the vehicle to see if there are any leaks. If you did it correctly, your
oil pressure light
should turn off.
Finally, make sure to clean up. Don’t just dump the old oil on the ground or in a garbage can. Instead, place it in a tightly sealed container and bring it to a local recycling center.
